As the largest industrial and commercial centre in India, Chennai is a hub of many businesses. Starting a business in the city requires a lot of preparation and understanding of different legal structures that are available. Getting a clear idea about the process of company registration is important in order to avoid any pitfalls that might arise.

The first step is to come up with a unique name for the business. This should be based on the nature and activities of the business. The name should abide by the guidelines specified in the Companies Act of 2013. Once the name is approved, it is required to submit a draft of Memorandum of Association and Articles of Association. Once all the documents are verified and signed, it is required to file for registration with the Registrar of Companies or ROC.

Once the registration is done, it is also required to get a private business seal to make all of the processes official. The final step is to stamp all of the documents at the treasury or at any authorised private bank. This will take around 1-2 days and the charges vary depending on the capital size of the company.

If you are planning to move your registered office from the current location of the business in Chennai to a different place within the same city, it is required to inform the ROC about this change. This can be done by passing a board resolution and filing form INC 22 with the MCA. The utility bill for the new address and an NOC from the landlord should be attached along with the form.
